Unending Mercy

The Lord’s acts of mercy are not exhausted, his compassion is not spent;

They are renewed each morning—great is your faithfulness!

Lamentations 3:22-23

These promises give a lot to us, but they also ask a lot of us. Being full trusting every second of the day, never allowing a doubt to creep in….believing you are chosen for a unique purpose even when you feel like you keep hitting roadblocks…believing God calls you “Mine” even when you feel lonely, maybe even discarded. It’s not easy.

Today we rest in the promise of God’s great mercy.

No matter how often we doubt ourselves and God OR fall into thinking of God as a sidebar in our lives—that He cannot provide us what we need OR reach for control ignoring when God is telling us to slow down or decide bravely or face a thing that requires courage OR try to define ourselves by the world’s standards, he is there willing to help us start fresh.

He doesn’t shame us for trying to go ahead without Him.

He doesn’t reject us because we ignore tugs in our heart from Him and instead do the fun thing or the easy thing.

He doesn’t strip our purpose from us when we make a misstep.

He instead speaks His promises over us again, mercifully, reminding us that He will not let anything come between you and Him.

He invites us every day: Begin again.

He reminds us: I will not give up on you; I know who I created you to be.

He says with deep compassion: I understand your struggles. Let’s work together on overcoming them.

He never closes the door or places limits on what is possible after our misguided attempts to live life without Him. God is infinite. Just as He is infinite, so is His mercy.

We cannot even begin to fathom its vastness, how it heals, how it leads us, how it surrounds us in our loneliness and how it scoops us up when drowning in self-doubt.

Honestly, we could not imagine all the purposes that mercy serves in our life. He sees so much more than we do.

Today, we are reminded that God is always ready to offer mercy to us in our weak moments and also in our strong moments. He promises he will never stop offering us such mercy.

I am grateful for mercy every morning because I am more often in need of it than I would like to say.

Imagine each morning the Lord pouring his mercy over you, knocking away your need for control, your unforgiveness, your pride, your self-doubt, your guilt, your shame. Now realize that mercy spout, it doesn’t shut off. It just keeps pouring over your mind, heart and soul.

Unending mercy. He wants to wash all the negativity away, all the walls keeping you from Him. You are drenched in His mercy.
