They that hope in the LORD will renew their strength,
they will soar on eagles’ wings;
They will run and not grow weary,
walk and not grow faint.
Isaiah 40:31
The Lord promises us more in many places in the Bible. In this case when we place our hope in Him, we will find ourselves doing more than we physically felt possible, doing more than we could have imagined. We find ourselves rising higher, moving forward fast or slow, but never tiring.
Yesterday I highlighted, we are promised the Lord is always working, and we know this is true because there are times in our life where we are on a kind of normal sort of path and are suddenly provided an opportunity which totally changes the trajectory of our life for the better. We are soaring to new heights in our spiritual, personal or professional life.
Others have experienced the feeling like that thing was never going to work out and kept turning it over to the Lord in prayer. Suddenly, we find things click one day, providentially, as it relates to a mission, relationship or decision, and we are off and running. All of our time in prayer with the Lord, the waiting, prepared us for the run and how the Lord will carry us as we run.
Still others are on the walk, steady, not too slow, not too fast, but following the Lord, trusting in His Word and promises. They find themselves strong rather than weak. In walking with the Lord, they forget the length of their journey. They don’t worry about those running. The Lord asked them to walk.
And then there is the extraordinary we witness: the spouse caring for their spouse who is suffering from illness, the parent of a child with rare physical challenges, the adult faced with parents who require 24/7 attention, the sibling walking with their sibling through mental illness. We watch and wonder how they endure it, but if you have lived it, you know the answer is the Lord. Because the truth is without hope in Him, we would collapse under the weight of emotion and responsibility, without His strength we would struggle to face the day, but Love calls us forth to soar or run or walk in every situation. He renews our strength to do the work He has called us to.
This verse could read those who hope in Love will renew their strength. The Lord promises our hope in Him brings new heights, brings endurance when we need it and will ensure we will never tire of doing what we are called to do. The important key to this promise is our participation: to place our hope in Him, who is Love Himself.
Do you find yourself in a place where you are feeling weary? Is your energy fading as it relates to something God has put on your heart? I reassure you with the words of C.S. Lewis, “Courage, dear heart.” Place your hope in Love. He will not fail you. It’s a promise.
